Provocative Art is the trading name of artist Mark Roberts. Born in Birmingham, Mark was educated at the esteemed Moseley School of Art. His early career in retail design and development produced a number of interior design concepts for well known blue chip retailers. Mark’s real passion however, lay in painting.
Following a number of successful exhibitions both in the U.K and Europe, Mark turned professional in 2001 and has now established himself as progressive artist. His strong contemporary style has been popular with collectors and individuals looking for private commissions.
The main inspiration for Mark’s work is the female form. The contrasts between light and shade feature strongly in his work, with colours forming shapes within shapes creating a bold contemporary look. As his painting style evolved, Mark turned to glass mosaic and discovered a new medium to work with that brought new light to his imagery. Using his artwork as inspiration for his designs, his glass mosaics found a new audience. More recently his glass mosaic work has developed into 3D and internally illuminated creations.
Mark is a member of The Northampton Guild of Designer Craftsmen, British Association of Modern Mosaics, Worcester Society of Artists, Artistree and The Erotic Art Society.
Major Exhibitions include:
The Birmingham Art Gallery, The Liverpool Art Gallery, The Royal Society of Artists (Birmingham), Whiteleys Gallery (London), Saachi Gallery (London), Menier Gallery (London), The Gallerie Erotica (Stuttgart), Erotic Art Gallery (Amsterdam).
